In watching students go through the notebooks, they take paths of varying resistance to get to the correct code (i.e., they're not all thinking/learning at the same level). I watched a webinar that emphasized the importance of including short multiple choice formatives to assess learning and tease out misconceptions that need to be addressed so that students move forward with solid foundations. This is something we should be doing continually, but it is not easy to continually be creating items. I'm including an example of an assessment I used for Notebook 1, and I'm wondering if people are willing to contribute to a more extensive library of items that we can use for formative assessment.
